CLASS LOGO:

Have your students work in small groups to design a class logo.  Ask them first to consider what kind of words or symbols they think could best describe them: are they going for a bold and competitive feel (try striking colors, such as black and red), a bright and academic spirit, or sporty and enthusiastic, perhaps? Think of literary characters, animals, or objects such as swords to create the logo. Have the groups submit their final designs by a given date, then vote on the winning logo. It's a great way to have students work cooperatively and gain a feeling of class community and respect at the beginning of the school year.

"We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities."

-  Ralph Waldo Emerson
