HAVE A PAJAMA DAY:

Ask your students to come to class in their pajamas, instead of their regular school clothes -- they'll love this idea! Then sing lullabies and read "Good Night Moon". Then, on a pre-made boy or girl shape on the door, wall, or board, have students decorate pajamas with polka dots, squiggles, dashes, etc. in different colors of markers. You can have them take turns so it won't create any competition for space, and even have the pajama-girl or boy figure marked off in sections for each student to take one section only to decorate. You could be reading your story while each student quietly goes up from the circle, to whom you pass a colored marker, then quietly sits down and the next one goes up, etc., all while you read your story or quietly sing your lullabies. Finally, discuss getting a good night's sleep and why it's important for your students. Best of all, they get to stay and play in their pajamas all day!
