Sound Drill
Tape some sounds from various places, appliances, events, etc. Consider a can opener, water dripping, scraping a shoe, brushing hair. You can even ask your students to bring in sound clips to add to your collection. When you have a substantial number of sound clips, take five minutes each morning to sharpen students' attentions by playing a sound clip of the day, and asking them to identify it.
